Early Morning Crash Kills Bicyclist

On August 9, 2020, at 4:22 a.m. 51-year-old Walter Allen was killed in an accident on Mike Padgett Highway. He was riding his bicycle on the highway at 4-H Club Road when he was struck by a southbound vehicle. Allen was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:15 a.m.

The Richmond County Coroner’s office says the cause of death was blunt-force trauma.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office confirms the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, but the case is still under investigation.
