Coronavirus Outbreak at Nursing Home in Augusta, GA

Windermere Health and Rehabilitation Center located on J. Dewey Gray Circle is under investigation by the Georgia Department of Public Health. As of late Monday, 74 patients and 20 employees have tested positive for COVID-19.

Of those 74 residents, 4 have died, 4 are being treated at the hospital and 70 are self-isolating at the facility.

At this time, District Attorney Natalie Paine is working with the governor’s office and the Department of Health to appropriately respond to the outbreak.

Timeline of Events at Golden LivingCenter – Windermere

  • Wednesday, April 8th – The first positive COVID-19 result came back, according to Mayor Hardie Davis.
  • Thursday, April 9th – The Georgia Department of Health made a visit to Windermere. Windermere then called Augusta University Health to conduct testing for everyone at the nursing home.
  • Friday, April 10th – WJBF received a tip about the positive COVID-19 results being more than 70. A spokesperson from Windermere confirmed it to be true that afternoon.
  • Saturday, April 11th – Firefighters/EMTs wearing full personal protective equipment evaluated patient care, safety protocols established by the center, and any potential concerns.
  • Tuesday, April 21st – WRDW confirmed that asymptomatic employees are back to work at Windermere Health and Rehabilitation Center.
  • Tuesday, May 12th – Data released by the Georgia Department of Community Health shows 76 out of 77 residents have tested positive for COVID-19, and 8 have died.
